An Olympic Christmas Tradition

The Olympians Club of WA (OCWA) held its annual Christmas Lunch at the Perth Hockey Stadium on Sunday 14th December.  The lunch was one of the largest yet with 86 guests, including 39 Olympians, gathering together to celebrate the upcoming Festive season. [more]

Superb Mitchell creates history
15 December 2008

West Australian teenager Lauren Mitchell (WAIS/AIS) has become the first Australian female gymnast to win a World Cup final, defeating a stellar field on the balance beam in Madrid, Spain overnight.

Mitchell only received the call up to the beam final ten days ago and had already returned to Australia following two successful competitions in Europe last month. [more]

Nick Green to lead the 2012 Australian Olympic Team

Dual Olympic rowing gold medallist Nick Green will lead the Australian Olympic Team to the 2012 Games in London following his appointment as Chef de Mission today.

The AOC Executive Board endorsed Green’s appointment at a meeting in Melbourne. [more]


Hackett calls it a day

Grant Hackett has pulled down the curtain on one of Australia's greatest swimming careers to a standing ovation.

The national team captain announced his retirement at Swimming Australia's swimmer of the year awards in Sydney and it drew the entire crowd to their feet. [more]

2008 Winter Strickland Medal

The Winter Strickland Medal is awarded for the Most Outstanding Performance by a Western Australian Olympian at the most recent Summer and Winter Olympic Games. 

The medal is voted on by members of the Olympians Club of WA (including all WA Olympians and those Olympians who reside in WA).
